About Graphical User Interface GUI

A graphical user interface (GUI), often pronounced gooey,is a type of user interface that allows users to interact with programs in more ways than typing such as computers; hand-held devices such as MP3 players, portable media players or gaming devices; household appliances and office equipment with images rather than text commands. A GUI offers graphical icons, and visual indicators, as opposed to text-based interfaces, typed command labels or text navigation to fully represent the information and actions available to a user. The actions are usually performed through direct manipulation of the graphical elements.

About Video Games


A video game is an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device. The word video in video game traditionally referred to a raster display device. However, with the popular use of the term "video game," it now implies any type of display device. The electronic systems used to play video games are known as platforms; examples of these are personal computers and video game consoles. These platforms range from large mainframe computers to small handheld devices. Specialized video games such as arcade games, while previously common, have gradually declined in use.

Is GUI really important?

In my opinion, GUI is really important and play such a big role, especially when we are using the electronic equipment, such as computer and mobile phone. GUI serves like a 'service', where we can keep track of the data or can access to something easily by just clicking or looking, rather hassling ourself to type.

Assignment 2 - Graphical User Interface

For this second assignment, the students need to create a Graphical User Interface for each target user category; Kids, Teenagers and Adults, based on the chosen title/subjects.

So, for this assignment I have choose a suitable topic to create a GUI for the targeted users, which is:

DESCRIPTION:

IN THIS ABSTRACT ARTWORK, I USE LOTS OF COLORS TO VISUALIZE THE EMOTION OF EXCITEMENT OF THE TEENAGERS WHO AGED ABOVE 18. THE EXPLOSION EFFECT ON THE BACKGROUND VISUALIZES HOW SOMETHING THAT IS SO EXCITED OCCURS VERY RANDOMLY AND UNEXPECTED TO THE TEENAGERS, CAN GIVE THEM A VERY CHEERFUL AND EXCITED MOMENT. THE EXCITED MOMENT IS JUST LIKE A BLAST, THAT ALMOST EVERYONE CAN GO CRAZY. THE TWIRL, SPINNING EFFECT AT THE CENTER GIVING THE INDICATION OF SOMEONE WHO IS SO EXCITING, THEY CAN’T EVEN CONTROL HIM/HERSELF; WHICH IS SOMETIMES CAN BE HAPPENED IF THE PARTICULAR PERSON FEELS REALLY HAPPY AND EXCITED. IN THIS ILLUSTRATION ARTWORK, THE STYLE THAT I USED CAN BE REFERRED TO ‘GRAFFITI’ ART, WHICH MOST TEENAGERS LIKE TO USE/MAKE IT. WHILE THE ‘IT’S ALIVE’ TEXT MAKING A QUITE CLEAR IMAGES IN THE FRONT CENTER, THE BACKGROUND SHOWS THE COLORS OF EXCITEMENT. LOTS OF ICON, SUCH AS ARROW, HELIX, AND TWIRL ARE USE FOR A NICE BACKGROUND EFFECT, TO CREATE THE GRAFFITI STYLE ART. FROM THIS ARTWORK, I ALSO WANT TO GIVE SOME HIDDEN MEANING ON HOW SOMEONE CAN BECOME SO EXCITED, LIKE ‘BACK FROM THE DEAD’. THUS, MY FIGURE DRAWING THAT SHOWS A PERSON WITH OPEN ARMS IN THE AIR IS NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE EXCITEMENT FEELING, BUT TO SHOW HOW THE EXCITED EMOTION CAN BE DESCRIBED AS JUST LIKE SOMEONE WHO REVIVE FROM BEING DEAD.

Artwork Treatment and Target Audience

ARTWORK TREATMENT

- For abstract, variation of color is needed to form an abstract of excited emotions. From there, I will create some sort of distortion effect, to generally give the idea of someone who becomes so excited, can sometimes go crazy. The abstract that I would like to design is not really in form of something or someone, but trying to visualize of how someone’s feeling.

- For illustrative artwork, I try to design a graffiti art style, with a chosen quote text that match with the style. It is quite a challenge whether to just some basic colors for the artwork or just all types of color, to visualize the excited moments. I also would include the figure drawing, but it is more in shaded (silhouette) style. The figure drawing shows a person who feels very excited with some sort of exciting pose.

My Target Audience:

Teenagers above 18 years old

The reason why I choose 18 years teenagers is because this kind of group people is usually tends to have a very great excited things that can be happened to them. For instance, teenagers, in Malaysia, when turned into 13, they still need to learn in school after finishing primary school and continue their studying in the secondary school or high school. At that time, most teenagers have feel the pain of studying, taking examination and test, like PMR and SPM. Cut to the short, after they done with the main examination and going to 18, they will have some sort of great, excited feeling. They don't need to study and go to schools. Of course every teenagers has different thoughts of what are they going to do after finishing school, whether they want to continue study to university, or going to oversea, or finding a job or get married. All of that are actually the excited moment of what teenagers are waiting for. Personally, that what am I thinking before and I think that would be appropriate for me to produce the artworks based on the current situation of 18 years old teenagers (or young adult).

In order to produce abstract and illustrations artworks, based on my chosen quote and emotion, along with my target audiences, these are the list of suitable theme and criteria for my artworks

ABSTRACT:

- Use a lot of colors

- Not showing the emotion clearly, since it is an abstract

- One of the art style use is twirl effect

- Blobs effect might included, if necessary

ILLUSTRATIVE

- Again, use lots of colors

- Using ‘graffiti’ art style

- Included most basic shapes, like circle

- Included some simple icons

*Graffiti Arts

Based on Wikipedia dictionary, graffiti is he name for images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner on property. A related term is "graffito", which involves scratching through one layer of pigment to reveal another beneath it.

Abstract in art is a visual language of form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world

The Moment Of Excitement

One of my chosen quote has an emotion on it; which is Excitement.

If I want to talk about the excited moment, that would be a lot of lists that can be written in here, to show any great moments or event

s that lead us to excitement.

So, what things can be happened to someone that lead to the excited moment?

Here just some example:

Enough money to buy something that we want for a long time.

Hearing a good news or event

Getting something as a present without any expectations

Successfully completing something that worth of time

Passed the examination or test

Basically, that just some of it. Lots of exciting moment can be happen in every second.

As human, we should be glad if something good happen to us. It's not always happening to everybody and not all of us has a very good luck in all days.

The Colour and The Emotions

The emotions are not the things that can be seen through someone's facial expression. The colour in our life also can show the feelings/emotion. People back in time have already give the awareness that each of the colour represent humans' expressibility in daily life.

The artists/painters usually need to choose a correct color to show the moods or expressions through their paintings/artwork. When shown on public, if some people recognize what some specific colour means, they can get and understand the expression of painting quickly. It might never know whether the colour chosen for the painting is actually on purpose to show the specific moods or the artist just randomly picked the colour based on their own understanding, but still, if we know the correct color of the correct mood, we might know the expression through it.

Here a few type of colour and what kind of mood/expression can be get through the colour.

Red	A warm colour is the colour of energy, excitement and vitality. It is also a good grounding colour. Red is a powerful healing agent for healing diseases of the blood and circulation. It will also help with depression but it can raise blood pressure or anxiety. Red, used in a large space, can be welcoming, energising and invigorating, but it can radiate aggression. Red, in a small space, can be cozy, intimate, or claustrophobic.
Orange	Orange is a warm colour, a social and exuberant colour and represents ripeness, warmth and happiness. If used extensively, orange can be a very forceful colour, but is also a good grounding colour. It is used to increase immunity, help in all digestive ailments and will have a gentle warming effect if used lightly. Orange promotes feelings of excitement, can make you feel vibrant, improves appetite, and enhances social interaction
Yellow	Yellow is a warm colour and the colour of intellect and it is used for mental stimulation, it will help you think quicker. It is also the colour of clarity and insight . It is he first colour seen by newborns and couples fight more and babies cry more in lemon-coloured rooms It is the brightest of all colours and has the greatest illuminating power. It is warm and cheerful and stimulates activity, communication, circulation and appetite. However it is not a good colour for nervy people or people easily agitated.
Green	Green Is the colour of harmony and balance. It is good for tired nerves and it helps with the heart area. It will balance the emotions and bring about a feeling of calmness. Green is a good general healing colour. Green is a restful colour so will aid sleep, it also represents nature, and therefore promotes balance, harmony, peace, hope and stability.
Blue	Is the colour of truth, serenity and harmony, by helping to soothe the mind. Blue is good for cooling, calming, reconstructing and protecting. Blue will help feverish conditions, it will help stop bleeding and it will help with nervous irritations. Researchers found that children tested higher on IQ tests in rooms with blue ceilings Blue, if diluted to a lighter hue, can reduce stress and relieve tension. Is a colour of peace, tranquility and wisdom and can generate a sense of well-being. Blue gives the impression of space and coolness and represents serenity and loyalty.
Purple	Purple is a colour that will connect you with your spiritual self. It is good for mental and nervous problems. It will assist very well with rheumatism and epilepsy. Purple is a calming colour and can comfort and relieve strain. Purple is associated with noble traits such as love, truth and justice. It is dramatic, sophisticated, sensual and imaginative.
Pink / Mauve / Lavender	The colour's of equilibrium. Lavender can help with spiritual healing and is used as a tranquilliser. All can aid sleep. Lavender is the colour of replenishing and rebuilding, whilst pink and mauve are restful and calming. While red may be considered an energizing colour, pink is the most calming. For this reason the California children's probation department found that violent children had fewer outbursts when placed in a pink room. Being a tint of red, pink also affects us physically, but it soothes, rather than stimulates. (Interestingly, red is the only colour that has an entirely separate name for its tints.
White	White is the colour of purity. It will purify the body on the highest levels and will bring peace and comfort. Regarded as restful and clean, but too much will appear stark. White symbolises light, triumph, innocence and joy and it gives the effect of enlarging a space and creates an atmosphere of coolness.
Silver / Grey	Silver is the colour of peace and persistence. It is the major purging colour so it is very good for removing unwanted diseases and troubles from the body. Grey, like white, is regarded as restful and clean, but too much will appear stark. Pure grey is the only colour that has no direct psychological properties. It is, however, quite suppressive.
Black	Black represents an absence of light and colour, but can be a deep and restful contrast. It is sophisticated, elegant, dramatic and formal and gives a feeling of solid strength. It can be powerful, aloof and intimidating.
